Gianni CARAVAGGIO
Lo stupore è nuovo ogni giorno (manna), 2009
sandblasted glass and sand – 100 x 70 cm
Inside the oven that was used, during the Passover, to cook unleavened bread, Caravaggio places his Lo stupore è nuovo ogni giorno (Amazement is New Each Day), recalling the amazement at the arrival of the manna in the desert, the memory of which is renewed each year in the act of consuming unleavened bread. A sheet of Murano glass with shattered edges is perforated by the pattern of the stars on the day of the artist's birth. By covering the surface with marble quartz, the artist recreates the pattern of this constellation on the floor. Lifting the pane of glass, as if it were a shell, renews the amazement of the origin, of the birth, of the creation of a new scenario.
